We Are The World Blogfest is here with its 7th edition !

Worldwide there is a massive growth in technology and economy but when it
comes to "food " , we can see millions of people who are looking for food ,
undernourished , malnourished and several dying of hunger . India , is no exception from this horrific epidemic.
Even being the fastest growing economy in the world , India is the second largest populated country in the world where food and poverty are the common anomalies among many . According to FAO estimates in ‘The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, 2017” report, 190.7 million people are undernourished in India. By this measure 14.5% of the population is undernourished in India.
In India , recent statistics related to food is alarming :
14.5% of our population is undernourished
190.7million people go hungry everyday
1 in 4 children malnourished
3,000 children in India die every day from poor diet related illness
Here, every food counts as this might be of some help to satiate the hunger of people.
With that perspective , several organisations and individuals in various cities are working to reduce wastage of food and also donate food to help others .
A food ATM has come to Kolkata, courtesy Sanjha Chulha, a famous restaurant in
the city. Installed outside their eatery, the refrigerator is open to everyone who wishes
to donate leftover food for those who go hungry. This noble drive came into being as part
of a 'Hunger Free Kolkata' initiative in partnership with P.R.A.N.

Hi Sinchita - food is always so important - and what a great idea installing the fridge where people can come and help themselves and their families. We all have waste food ... even a little helps. I bet that restaurant is a leading light in so many charitable ways ... thanks for sharing their way of helping ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThanks Hillary for liking this post ...true , food is so important for us .
DeleteWhat a terrific idea! Food waste is a huge problem everywhere, I suspect. But unless we see people who are right outside our doors, hungry, we don't realize what a difference it can make to them. That restaurant is doing good things.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda for your valuable comments !!
DeleteThis is a great step, thanks for sharing. Hope it'll pick up. As a shy person, I eould find it difficult to talk to and give food personally to people in need but this could work.
ReplyDeleteThanks for liking this post ...true, it's a great initiative to help the hungry people .
